Questions

Golf simulators, answered

What we hear most from Utah homeowners, builders and designers about golf simulators. Short, straight answers.

The levels

What are the levels of GOLFZON simulator?

We build around three. TwoVisionNX is the top level, with a moving floor and auto-tee. TwoVisionNX Standard keeps the dual camera sensors, the graphics and the 300+ courses without the moving floor or auto-tee, and it is GOLFZON's pick for home. GDR MAX is built for training and club fitting, with 35 data points and 10 courses.

What is the difference between TwoVisionNX and TwoVisionNX Standard?

TwoVisionNX works with GOLFZON's moving floor and includes the auto-tee. TwoVisionNX Standard has neither. Both run Unreal Engine 5 graphics, play 300+ courses, read 20 data points and have fairway, rough and bunker hitting surfaces. The Standard also fits a lower ceiling, at 10'2" against 10'8".

What does the moving floor do?

It tilts the ground under your feet to match the lie on the course. GOLFZON offers two versions for TwoVisionNX. The Dual Plate moves in 24 directions for 6,800 possible lies, and the Motion Plate moves in 64 directions for 56,000 possible lies.

Who is the GDR MAX for?

Coaches, club fitters and golfers who want to train. It reads 35 data points across the ball, the club and the swing, with swing video replay and a club fitting mode. It has 10 courses and no network play, so it is a practice system first.

How does a GOLFZON simulator read a shot?

With high-speed cameras. GOLFZON says the cameras watch the dimples on the ball and nothing else, and that they measure a 320-yard drive and a 7-inch putt to the same degree of accuracy.

Room sizes

What is the minimum room size for a GOLFZON simulator?

GOLFZON publishes a minimum for each level, in height, width and depth. TwoVisionNX needs 10'8" by 14' by 18'3". TwoVisionNX Standard needs 10'2" by 13' by 18'3". GDR MAX needs 10'8" by 14'5" by 19'. Those widths are for both hands, and a right-hand-only bay can run a little narrower.

What room size do you recommend for a golf simulator?

15 feet wide, 25 feet deep and 10 feet 8 inches high. The published minimums are the floor, not the goal. Our target leaves room for a full swing, room behind the hitter and room for people to sit and watch.

What ceiling height does a golf simulator need?

10'8" for TwoVisionNX and GDR MAX, and 10'2" for TwoVisionNX Standard. With a moving floor and auto-tee, GOLFZON calls for a 7.25-inch platform around the hitting area, and that lowers the height inside the room. We count it when we check a ceiling.

Will a GOLFZON simulator fit under a 9-foot ceiling?

None of the three levels on this site will. The lowest published minimum is 10'2". In a new build, we set the ceiling before framing. In a finished home, we look at lowering the floor or moving to a taller room.

What does both hands mean?

A both-hands bay serves left-handed and right-handed players, so it needs more width. GOLFZON publishes a narrower width for a right-hand-only bay. If a left-handed golfer will play, plan for both hands.

Kits and full builds

What is the difference between a kit and a full build?

A kit is the GOLFZON system, supplied and installed by us in a room your builder makes ready to GOLFZON's blueprints. A full build is the whole room: booth, screen wall, audio, lighting, control and finish, done by us with your builder.

Is the booth included with a GOLFZON simulator?

No. GOLFZON supplies the simulator hardware, software, calibration and support, along with blueprints for the booth. The room, flooring, electrical and booth are separate. In a kit, your builder handles them. In a full build, we do, with your builder.

Can a golf simulator share a room with a home theater?

Yes, and we have done plenty of combo rooms. They do compromise. Screen size, seating and ceiling height all pull against each other, so we lay out what each side gives up before you build.

What if my room falls short?

We look at the number that is short. A wall can sometimes come out to gain width, and a floor can sometimes drop to gain height. In a new build, we set the numbers before framing. If the room cannot work, we tell you.

What else can you do with the simulator room?

Sound, lighting, shades and control. We tie them into the room so it all comes on together, and the same system can run the rest of your home.

Have you built golf simulator rooms before?

Yes. Between us and our partners, we have a lot of experience with simulator rooms, including golf and theater combos.

Do you work with other simulator brands?

GOLFZON is the simulator we sell and install. If you have chosen another brand, we connect you with its installer and can still handle the room's audio, lighting and control.

Timing and cost

How long does a GOLFZON simulator take?

GOLFZON says about 14 weeks from signed order to first round, and the install itself typically takes 1 to 2 days per booth once the space is ready. Custom build-outs can take longer. We give you a schedule when we know the room.

What internet does a golf simulator need?

GOLFZON asks for at least 50 Mbps, and it prefers a hardwired Ethernet connection. We plan the network connection with the room.

How much does a golf simulator cost?

We quote each room after we see the plans or walk the space. Two things set the number: the level you choose, and kit or full build. Send us the room and we come back with a real number.

Do you work in Southern Utah?

Yes. We work across the Wasatch Front, Park City and Southern Utah, including St. George, Santa Clara and Ivins.

For builders and designers

When should a builder bring you in?

Before framing. Height is the hardest number to change later, and the walls set the width and depth. Send us the plans early and we check the room against the level your client wants.

Who builds the booth?

On a kit, you build it to GOLFZON's blueprints, and GOLFZON's project manager works with the general contractor to get it ready for the install. On a full build, we take it on with you.

How tall is the simulator platform?

GOLFZON lists the platform at 7.25 inches high with finishing material. With a moving floor and auto-tee, it runs around the hitting area and lowers the height inside the room. Plan for it in the section.

What do you need from us to start?

The plans, the ceiling height, the level your client has in mind, and whether a left-handed golfer will play. Send what you have, and we come back with notes on the room, then a quote.
